This page explains what The SUMMIT Foundation measures, how we define each metric, and where claims are independently verified. It exists for students, mentors, researchers, and donors who want more than a marketing claim.

Independently verified

Old Dominion University lists The SUMMIT Peer Mentoring on its official mentoring programs page (contact: Dr. Kevin Muchiri).
ODU Batten College published a 2022 feature on The Summit as a student-led STEM mentoring community.
Tax-deductible online gifts are processed through PayPal Giving Fund (Charity ID 5166462).

Program outcomes (internal data)

Founded — 2017

First SUMMIT cohort at ODU Batten College of Engineering & Technology.

Primary program hub — Old Dominion University

Official peer mentoring program on campus. Core meetings and programming remain centered at ODU.

STEM-H graduates (affiliated) — 90+

Active members who completed a STEM-H degree while participating in SUMMIT.

Multi-year retention — ~90%

Members active two or more years who continued through graduation (not first-semester drop-off).

Alumni return to mentor — ~70%

Graduates who report mentoring, volunteering, or community service within 24 months of graduation (self-reported follow-up).

Lives reached (cumulative) — 400+

Students and young men engaged through mentoring, conferences, workshops, and affiliated outreach (2017–2025).

What we are still building

Annual impact report with third-party review (target: 2027 cycle).
Published board roster and Form 990 summary on Transparency.
Formal partnership letters where universities beyond ODU co-sponsor programming.
